who we are

So Far Out started out with just one wine: a chillable red that was a little unconventional … just like us.

Now, our brand taken on a life of its own. We’re redefining what it means to be a California winery. We’re exploring new flavors, pushing boundaries. We’re not afraid to think outside the box. As long as it’s 100% organic, and 100% Santa Barbara County.

So Far Out developed over years of brainstorming sessions. It stemmed from the creativity and collaboration between three wine enthusiasts, who together are tapped into every corner of the wine industry: Andrew Jones, Mike Testa and Jamil Williams.

    Andrew Jones

Andrew has always existed slightly in the future of winemaking. He’s been on the forefront of every Californian winemaking trend in the past decade, and he brings that ingenuity to So Far Out. He started brewing wine in his attic at Cal Poly SLO, and that curiosity flourished into his acclaimed wine brand, Field Recordings. In his day job, he works as a nursery fieldman, planning and planting vineyards all over the state. But since he was a kid, he’s always felt a pull to start a Santa Barbara venture.

    Mike Testa

Mike’s been here a while: He’s a fifth-generation farmer from Santa Maria. He went straight from Cal Poly to climbing up the ladder at E&J Gallo. Mike’s dream of making his way back home  was fulfilled when he became partner at Coastal Vineyard Care Associates, the largest vineyard management firm in Santa Barbara County. Mike brings an incredible knowledge of this region. He carefully selects our vineyards and focuses his personal properties on growing organic grapes and providing sustainable, high-quality fruit to the local wine industry.

  • Jamil Williams, So Far Out's creative force. He's a middle-aged man with a short beard and curly dark hair, smiling and wearing a green button-up shirt, standing indoors with a blurred background.

    Jamil Williams

Our creative force, Jamil, started his career at the Blue Hill Wine shop before moving to California to take part in the blooming food and wine scene in San Francisco and Los Angeles. He managed the iconic Silverlake Wine before moving onto Amy Atwood Selections. There, he started fostering a close relationship with Andrew.

While thinking about how our society has changed and evolved over recent years, Jamil thought of the term “So Far Out.”

We are “so far out” from where we were just a few years ago. It got him thinking of how “so far out” he could take a wine brand. Knowing what a dynamic force Andrew is, they partnered together. Adding Mike’s vineyard expertise, the trio imagined a brand that pushes the limits creatively and puts the fun back into wine tasting. A brand you can share with your friends and family.
